Kasey Stewart

Senior Family Lawyer

  • Family Law

Kasey Stewart is a stakeholder in the firm and oversees the family law area of the firm.

She was raised in the Hunter region but moved away to complete her Law Degree.

When she finished University in 2006, she and her husband travelled through Far North Queensland and the Northern Territory. They decided to make a ‘short stop’ in Darwin, but loved it so much they ended up staying there for over 3 years!

Kasey’s first job as a lawyer was in Darwin working as a general practice lawyer, and it was there that her love of Family Law was sparked.

She returned to the Hunter in 2009, and started working at Thomas Mitchell Solicitors, which was later incorporated by Mason Lawyers. Since returning to the Hunter she has worked exclusively as a family lawyer.

In 2022, Kasey became an Accredited Specialist in Family Law. She is very proud to have been recognised by her peers, it is a recognition that less than 5% of Lawyers ever receive.

Also in 2022, Kasey was appointed to the panel of Independent Children’s Lawyers, The role is challenging but rewarding. It gives her great satisfaction to know that she can make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable children.

“Every family is different, and I enjoy the challenge of trying to figure out the best possible outcome for each of my clients.”

When it comes to family law. Kasey strives for a result that is fair and reasonable and achieved by doing as little damage to an existing co-parenting relationship as possible. In litigation you either win or lose, and your relationship with your opponent is over. In family law the case finishes, but often parties are forced to communicate for years to come. Kasey keeps this understanding at the forefront of her advice to clients.

Kasey is understandably proud of the work she has done for her clients over the years, She has received some wonderful feedback over this time, but says that the thing that makes her most happy is to see a client blossom from a broken shell of a person to a person with dignity and an ability to control their own future.

“Don’t raise your voice, improve your argument.”

On a personal note. Kasey is a wife and mother of young children. When she is not acting as a taxi to her children, you will find her at the beach, or visiting friends and family.

She loves to read and listen to audiobooks. So, if you have any good recommendations, let her know!
